*****************************************************************************************************************About the prairie... If you have some land and you are sick to death of mowing it, please consider establishing a piece of prairie as a reasonable alternative to hours of nausea on the lawn mower. Once established, prairies are beautiful (if you like that sort of thing, which I do!) and require very little maintenance. Especially compared to acres of [monoculture] lawn. Diversity is good. Dozens of plant species will attract scores of wild creatures. Think about it. Contact me if you have questions. **********************************************************************************
Someone mention really cool Swing Music? Tell them about "Prairie Cats". The singingest, most happening band to come out of the Midwest for a millenium. For information on booking, buying their CD "The Big One" or other fan information contact [email protected] or me.
Don't try to save the planet, just work on your neighborhood.
This page is dedicated to spending time in energy efficient ways. You can waste time and you can spend energy, but don't spend your time wasting energy. One last reminder... If you need an economical JUGGLER for your special occasions, contact me for an extraordinarily good deal on a good time! ********************************************************************** The piece of art you see here is what I consider to be the epitome of juggler art and is called "The VOICE of SPACE". It pretty much speaks for itself, doesn't it? ******************************************************************************************************************** The art of Juggling is something that we all should experience. It develops one's coordination and reflexes. The number of times you catch an item as it falls off the shelf (yes, this happens to me a lot) will increase - thereby avoiding the necessity of cleaning up a nasty mess! Now, isn't it worth investing a few fun hours to gain such a skill?....... On the topic of BOOMERANGS: This is for those of us who are too old to ask a friend to play catch and to young to watch lots of "Wheel of Fortune". Boomerangs have been around for 20 thousand years. Why, it seems like only 14 thousand years ago we were just finishing the last ice age. 4000 years ago the Egyptians dabbled with boomerangs (and some basic architectural novelties). 700 years ago, the Hopis in the American Southwest tossed around boomerangs too. Even more recently than that, former Vice President of the United States, Henry A. Wallace stirred a little boom in boomerang popularity in the 1940's when he confessed to the public that he was a boomerang enthusiast. You can visit his original home site in Adair County, Iowa today to find out more about the life and works of this great American diplomat and agriculture technology leader. And of course we know that the Aboriginal Australians have long been masters of the craft. What else can you find to do (by yourself) with such a colorful history?

This beast was part of the foundation of successful civilizations on this continent. A powerful survivor, this animal is the largest modern creature living on land in North America. Full grown males will easily average over one ton. (approx. 1000 kg) The estimated numbers of bison present before the year 1800 range between 30 to 75 million. By 1900, there were only about 300 individuals accounted for... quite a genetic knot hole to be dragged through! Today there are over 200,000 bison in the US and Canada. Do yourself a favor. Grab some binoculars and go to the Neal Smith Nature Center near Prairie City, Iowa. Look at these tremendous animals and learn more about prairies!
